We are updating our blog straight from Jinja, Uganda, We love it here,
and We've been here now for 5 days!
Here's an update on what we've been up to during this time;
On the first day of outreach, James went out at 7:30a to leading the
outreach team in talking to the prisoners in three prisons. The young
people and adults in the prisons who are in prison were so grateful and
excited for us being there (one person we met had two years in jail for
carrying two people in the bed of his truck).
The prisoners performed beautiful songs for us and James and performed
dramas with the team for over 250 prisoners in the prison. They also spoke
and ministered to the prison staff's children, which included over 80 children.
After this experience James was reminded that when he serves others he always
gets something in return and one of the prisoners told him that he believes that
God keeps us alive because he wants us to continue to help others, amazing!
On the other days, James and his team went to 10 schools and spoke and
performed dramas for over 2500 children. They also went to remote villages
and islands that usually do not receive visitors. The people were very
accommodating and even brought us cold Sodas, which is a luxury here.
Brynea and the rest of the medical team have seen a few hundred people
during the medical clinics. Most of the patients have malaria, but
they treat for many different ailments. It has been fun for Brynea to
hone the medical knowledge and skills learned in nursing school that
may have been forgotten otherwise. For the sake of those faint of heart
we will not share any of the graphic stories here. The more
heart warming stories are so many in number that it would be difficult
to decide on one to share. One of the best things about the clinic so
far, besides being able to help the Ugandan people, is working with
locals who help translate, treat and pray for patients. They have such
big hearts for people when they come work with us all day (about 9-5)
and then go to their paying jobs! So amazing!
Just one more clinic day here in Jinja then on to Entebbe where we pray
we will be able to do at least a couple clinics, although their won't be the
wonderful help that was given in Jinja. The medical team also went to a local
hospital and prayed for the patients on Sunday afternoon. Such an eye
opening experience, seeing the difference between our modern hospitals
and theirs. It makes you thankful for all the things we have access
to in America.
Both of us are being stretched but God is providing for us.
The entire Uganda team here has really bonded over the last week.
Each and everyone of them is so special in so many ways. We have had
wonderful times of worship and sharing together and exposed our souls
in ways many people don't do in just a weeks time.
As you can see from the picture, we are lucky enough to be in a very
nice hotel which is near the source of the nile. We have a beautiful
view of Lake Victoria. However, next to the hotel there are people
living in mud houses. So the beautiful scenery is surrounded by
poverty. However, the Uganda people have shown us that there is more
than meets the eye. They may be living in very poor conditions, but
poor is relative, their spirits are full and their compassion is
great, they are truly blessed. We are luck enough to see truly happy
people.
Thank you for your support and prayers, We've only been working in
this country for five days and already our lives are changed forever.
If you would like to email us, we have internet here at the hotel. We
will be here till early morning Friday, US time.
With Blessings from Uganda!
